February 2026 – Dr Roy Rea, UNBC Faculty

“The Aleza Lake Education Center is located atop a rise in the surrounding forest that allows for occupants of the center to see a panoramic view of the forest at various stages of succession. It’s a beautiful building in a beautiful setting that is hard to take for granted.  Some of my best memories of the center are Department retreats where we were hammering out new directions as a faculty and of field camp modules jammed with students and instructors where field camp students came together to wrestle over the best ways to manage a forest like that at Aleza Lake while considering all the values a forest has to offer.  The experience of the Center is best felt on a late summer mornings with a fire blazing in the stove and the smell of fresh coffee and donuts in the air, which of course always leads to the brave walking out to the edge of the deck and belting out their best moose calls.”

October 2025 – Mackenzie Crerar, UNBC student

September 2025 – Dr Jonathan Cale, UNBC Faculty

“The Aleza Lake Field Education Centre was an ideal base of operations for my club's adventures in the research forest. Centrally located in the forest, the centre was a natural meeting point before and between explorations of the forest's many different habitats. The beautifully maintained centre had ample space inside for our large group to organize and identify many field specimens as well as for us to comfortably spread out to socialize and have lunch. The centre's staff were supportive and accommodating, ensuring the centre met our group's needs. Our group will be making a visit to the research forest with day-long activities at the centre a yearly occurrence.”

September 2025 – Dr Stephen Rader, UNBC Faculty

“[…] UNBC has a lovely conference centre […] an hour east of here (beyond Giscome) at Aleza Lake. I took my lab out there [...] and it completely changes the vibe to be off campus, surrounded by forests and gorgeous views. […] This is a gem that more people should know about and use.”
